Earn full credit card reward points for paying the ATO
When you pay the ATO directly, most cards award reduced or zero reward points. Pay through B2Bpay and you earn full card points plus B2B Points, because B2Bpay pays the ATO by bank transfer and the charge on your card is ordinary business spend.
Why do ATO payments earn no or reduced points when paid directly?
Short answer: Card issuers categorise government and ATO payments, and often insurance, rent, rates and utilities, as low or no-points spend. You still pay by card but miss the full points. Paying through B2Bpay avoids the category because you are paying B2Bpay, not the ATO.
Welcome to B2Bpay: a secure online platform for Australian businesses to pay all their bills with existing credit cards, debit cards or bank accounts, whether or not the payee accepts cards, and be rewarded with full card points every time, including on ATO payments.
B2Bpay pays the ATO by bank transfer using your payment reference number. The ATO receives a normal payment; your card sees a normal business purchase. That is why your points come through in full, and why B2Bpay keeps working after the ATO stops accepting credit cards directly on 30 June 2027 (see ato.gov.au).
What do you earn when you pay the ATO through B2Bpay?
You earn two sets of points: your card's full reward points, and B2B Points on the Earn plans.
Pay your tax. BAS, PAYG, income tax and other ATO liabilities earn full card points under your card's terms, plus 1 B2B Point per $1 on Earn Max or 1 per $2 on Earn Plus.
Pay other bills by card. Suppliers, rent, insurance, utilities and telco earn the same way, even where the payee does not accept cards.
Pay bills by bank account or PayTo. You still earn B2B Points at a lower platform fee, with no card needed.
B2B Points convert 1:1 to Qantas Points or Velocity Points, 2:1 to Avios and 1:2.5 to Luxury Escapes Société Points. See B2B Points.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Qantas card earn full Qantas Points on the ATO through B2Bpay?
The payment appears to your card issuer as a purchase from B2Bpay, so it earns at the card's standard rate for business spend under the issuer's terms. B2Bpay does not control card issuer rules, but it removes the ATO-specific restriction that applies to direct payments.
What is the difference between card points and B2B Points?
Card points come from your card issuer's rewards program and follow its rules. B2B Points come from B2Bpay on the Earn Plus and Earn Max plans, credit 5 days after payment, and convert to Qantas, Velocity, Avios or Luxury Escapes Société Points at the published rates. You earn both.
Can I pay the ATO by debit card or bank account through B2Bpay?
Yes. Debit cards are charged at the Visa/Mastercard rate. Bank account and PayTo payments carry a lower fee and still earn B2B Points on the Earn plans. You lose the interest-free period but keep the points and the convenience of one place for every bill.
How does the RBA surcharge ban affect this?
From 1 October 2026 the RBA has banned card surcharges. B2Bpay's fee is a platform fee for the service, charged whichever way you pay, rather than a charge triggered by using a card. Read our RBA guide. This is general information, not legal advice.
What happens after 30 June 2027?
The ATO will no longer accept credit cards directly. B2Bpay still pays the ATO by bank transfer with your payment reference number, so you can keep using your card and keep earning. See keep paying the ATO by card after 30 June 2027.
