Is B2Bpay safe? Security, compliance and who is behind it
Yes. B2Bpay is owned and operated by Zenith Payments Pty Ltd in Mascot, NSW, is PCI DSS compliant, verifies payee bank accounts, keeps data onshore and is used by more than 40,000 Australian businesses. AFSL 528678 is held by ZenPay Pty Ltd.
Is B2Bpay legit and safe to use?
Short answer: Yes. B2Bpay is owned and operated by Zenith Payments Pty Ltd, an Australian payments company based in Mascot, NSW. The platform is PCI DSS compliant, card details are tokenised, payee bank accounts are verified before payment, data is held onshore, and more than 40,000 Australian businesses use it.
Zenith Payments has operated in Australian payments since 1984 and processes payments across real estate, education, childcare, travel and other business-to-business sectors. AFSL 528678 is held by ZenPay Pty Ltd. B2Bpay is a Qantas Business Rewards partner and integrates with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, each of which has its own partner requirements.
Handing a tax payment to a third party deserves scrutiny, so the rest of this guide sets out what protections exist, how payments are processed and what to do if something goes wrong. See also why businesses choose B2Bpay.
How is my card data protected?
Card details are tokenised, so full card numbers are not stored in B2Bpay's systems, and the platform is PCI DSS compliant, the card industry's security standard for organisations that handle card data.
In practice that means your card is entered once into My Wallet and replaced by a token used for later payments. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the system is hosted in Australian data centres, so your data stays onshore.
Your login is your responsibility, as with any online service. Use a strong, unique password. Multiple user logins are supported, so you can give a bookkeeper their own access rather than sharing yours, and remove it when it is no longer needed.
How do I know my payment reaches the right account?
B2Bpay verifies payee bank account details before paying a new biller, which is why new suppliers go through a short verification step before the first payment. Many Australian billers are already set up in the biller list, which reduces the chance of keying errors.
For the ATO, your payment reference number ties the payment to your account and liability. For BPAY billers, the biller code and your customer reference do the same job. Enter references carefully; B2Bpay sends what you enter.
Every payment appears in your Payment History with its processing and settlement dates, so you can confirm when funds were sent. If you believe a payment has gone to the wrong account or has not arrived, contact the team immediately on 1300 205 575. The team confirms the process and timelines for any correction.
Is it safe to pay the ATO through a third party?
Yes, when the third party pays the ATO by the ATO's own electronic channels with your payment reference number, which is what B2Bpay does. The ATO receives a bank transfer that it allocates to your account in the normal way.
B2Bpay has been paying the ATO on behalf of businesses for years as part of its ordinary service, and the ATO's decision to stop accepting credit cards directly after 30 June 2027 does not change that, because the ATO receives a bank transfer rather than a card payment. The ATO's payment options are on ato.gov.au.
Two practical safeguards: enter your payment reference number exactly as shown on your BAS, and allow a few business days before the due date, since the ATO advises electronic payments can take up to 4 business days to appear. See paying the ATO by credit card.
Is there a maximum payment amount?
Limits depend on your card's credit limit and on B2Bpay's own controls, which the team confirms for your business. If you expect to make very large payments, such as an annual income tax bill, call 1300 205 575 before the due date so limits can be checked and, if needed, adjusted.
Your card issuer's limit is usually the binding constraint. A $50,000 BAS plus the platform fee needs that much headroom on the card at the time of payment. Some businesses split a large liability across two cards or across card and bank account, both of which B2Bpay supports.
B2Bpay also applies standard card rules: no payments for finance or credit, no payments to yourself or a related business entity, and nothing illegal.
Does using B2Bpay affect my credit score?
Using B2Bpay does not involve a credit application; you pay with a card or bank account you already hold. What affects your credit record is how you manage the card: paying statements in full and on time is the behaviour lenders like to see.
B2Bpay does not provide credit or financial advice. If you are considering a new or larger card facility to put bills through the platform, that application is with the card issuer and subject to its assessment.
What B2Bpay does affect is your cash position, by letting you pay bills by card and keep cash in the bank for up to 55 days. See 55 days interest-free.
