B2Bpay for manufacturing businesses

B2Bpay lets manufacturers pay raw material suppliers, component makers, packaging, freight, energy and the ATO by credit card, with the payee receiving a bank transfer, so large recurring input costs earn points and stay on your card for up to 55 days.

What manufacturing bills can be paid through B2Bpay?

Short answer: Inputs, overheads and tax. Raw materials, components, packaging, freight, energy, maintenance contractors, equipment leases and the ATO can all be paid by Visa, Mastercard or American Express, with the supplier receiving a bank transfer or BPAY payment.

Typical payments include:

  • Raw materials and components: steel, aluminium, resins, timber, fabrics, electronics and fasteners, often from suppliers who only take bank transfer.
  • Packaging, labels and consumables.
  • Inbound and outbound freight, customs brokers and 3PL warehousing.
  • Electricity and gas, which are significant for any plant that runs machinery.
  • Maintenance contractors, tooling, spare parts and equipment leases.
  • ATO payments: BAS, PAYG withholding and instalments, company tax.

How does paying inputs by card improve manufacturing cash flow?

Manufacturers buy materials weeks before the finished goods are sold and paid for. B2Bpay lets you pay the supplier on their terms while the cost sits on your card for up to 55 days interest-free, depending on the card and statement cycle. The supplier sees a normal bank transfer and your bank balance is untouched until the card statement is due.

For a business with a 60 to 90 day order-to-cash cycle, that extra month closes a lot of the gap without a loan or an overdraft. The cash flow guide walks through timing payments to the start of your statement cycle.

What do the points look like at manufacturing volumes?

Manufacturing spend is where points get serious. Your card issuer pays its usual reward points on every payment, and B2Bpay adds B2B Points on top: 1 per $1 on Earn Max, 1 per $2 on Earn Plus. 1 B2B Point equals 1 Qantas Point or 1 Velocity Point; 2 B2B Points equal 1 Avios.

A plant paying $300,000 a month to suppliers through B2Bpay on Earn Max earns 300,000 B2B Points a month before card points. Choosing a card with a strong business earn rate matters at this scale; see choosing a card for business bills and run your numbers in the calculator.

Who runs it, and what does it cost?

Typically the finance manager or accounts payable officer, with the owner or CFO as approver. Multiple user logins support that separation. Bills flow in from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, you choose which to pay by card and which by bank account or PayTo, and reconciliation is automatic.

Frequently asked questions

Do my suppliers need to sign up to anything?

No. Suppliers receive a standard bank transfer or BPAY payment with your reference, exactly as they do today. They do not need a card facility, do not pay a fee and do not need to know you paid by card. B2Bpay verifies their bank account details before the first payment.

Can I pay some suppliers by card and others by bank account?

Yes. Each payment can be made by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, bank account or PayTo from the same portal. Many manufacturers pay large material invoices by card for the cash flow benefit and smaller bills by bank account at a lower fee, earning B2B Points either way on Earn Plus or Earn Max.

Can I schedule payments to match supplier terms?

Yes. Payments can be one-off, bulk, recurring or future-dated. A common approach is to batch supplier payments weekly and date them to fall just after your card statement closes, which stretches the interest-free period toward its maximum. The making payments page has the detail.

How is the B2Bpay fee treated for tax?

The fee is a platform fee charged by B2Bpay for the service and appears on the tax statement you download from the portal. It is generally a deductible business expense, though you should confirm treatment with your accountant. GST is applied to the fee.

Can I keep paying the ATO by card after 2027?

Yes. The ATO has stated that after 30 June 2027 it will no longer accept credit card payments directly. B2Bpay pays the ATO on your behalf by bank transfer using your payment reference number, so you keep paying BAS, PAYG and company tax by card and earning points. See the ATO credit card changes guide.
