B2Bpay for tradies and trade businesses
B2Bpay lets plumbers, electricians, carpenters and other trades pay wholesaler accounts, subcontractors, vehicle and tool costs, insurance, licences, software and the ATO by credit card, with the payee receiving a bank transfer, so the trade account earns points.
What trade business bills can be paid through B2Bpay?
Short answer: The wholesaler account, the subbies, the van and the ATO. Trade supply accounts, subcontractors, vehicle finance and running costs, tools, insurance, licences, job management software and tax can all be paid by Visa, Mastercard or American Express, with the payee receiving a bank transfer or BPAY payment.
Typical trade bills:
- Plumbing, electrical, timber, paint, tile and hardware wholesaler accounts on 30 day terms.
- Subcontractors and labour hire invoicing per job.
- Vehicle finance, registration, fuel accounts, servicing and tyres.
- Tools and equipment, hire, public liability insurance and trade licences.
- Job management and quoting software, phone and website.
- The ATO: quarterly BAS, PAYG instalments and income tax.
The wholesaler receives a bank transfer with your account reference and nothing changes for them. See paying suppliers who do not accept cards. Builders should also read B2Bpay for builders.
Why does the 55 days matter for a tradie?
Because you buy the materials before you invoice the job, and the customer pays when they get around to it. B2Bpay lets you pay the wholesaler account on its due date by card while the cash stays in your account for up to 55 days interest-free, depending on the card and statement cycle.
The quarterly BAS is the other one. It lands whether or not your invoices have been paid, and putting it on the card through B2Bpay keeps the money in the account until your statement is due. The cash flow guide explains timing. Tradies can also add a card payment option to their own invoices through the biller product so customers pay faster.
How many points does a trade business earn?
Your card issuer pays its normal reward points on every B2Bpay payment, and B2Bpay adds B2B Points: 1 per $1 on Earn Max, 1 per $2 on Earn Plus. 1 B2B Point equals 1 Qantas Point or 1 Velocity Point.
A plumber paying $25,000 a month in wholesaler, subbie, vehicle and ATO payments through B2Bpay on Earn Max earns 25,000 B2B Points a month before card points, around 300,000 a year. Put your own numbers into the points calculator and see choosing a card for business bills.
Who runs it, and what does it cost?
Usually the owner or the partner who does the books, often with a bookkeeper. Multiple user logins are supported. Bills sync from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks with automatic reconciliation, so if your job management app pushes bills into Xero they flow through to B2Bpay as well.

Frequently asked questions
Can I pay my wholesaler account by credit card through B2Bpay?
Yes. Load the statement, pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express, and the wholesaler receives a bank transfer with your account reference. They do not need to accept cards. You earn card points and B2B Points, and the cash stays in your account until your statement is due.
Can I pay my BAS by card?
Yes. B2Bpay pays the ATO by bank transfer using your payment reference number, so the BAS goes on your card and earns points. The ATO has said it will stop accepting credit cards directly after 30 June 2027; paying through B2Bpay continues. See pay BAS with a credit card.
Can I pay subbies and labour hire?
Yes. Subcontractors and labour hire companies invoicing your business are suppliers and can be paid through B2Bpay by card, receiving a bank transfer. Employee wages and super are not paid through the platform; see payroll, super and what you cannot pay.
Is it worth it for a sole trader?
Often, yes. There is no stated monthly fee; you pay the platform fee per payment. A sole trader paying $8,000 a month in supplies, vehicle and tax on Earn Max earns 8,000 B2B Points a month plus card points on spend that previously earned nothing, with the cash flow benefit on top. Use the calculator to check.
Can customers pay me by card?
Yes. The biller product adds a card payment option to your invoices with funds settled to your bank account and reconciled in Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks. See accept card payments.
