Pay rent with a credit card and get rewarded

Paying business rent, strata or other property expenses through B2Bpay lets you use your credit card even when your landlord only accepts bank transfer or BPAY. You earn full card points plus B2B Points and keep cash in the bank for up to 55 days.

Can you pay rent with a credit card?

Short answer: Yes, through B2Bpay. Add your landlord, agent or strata manager as a payee using their BPAY or bank details, pay with your Visa, Mastercard or Amex, and B2Bpay pays them by BPAY or EFT. They do not need to accept cards.

Rent is one of the major recurring expenses most businesses have, and it is paid like clockwork. That makes it ideal for earning points. Property payments are very popular with B2Bpay customers who pay their major recurring expenses, such as rent and tax, through the platform to maximise points and cash flow.

"We have been using B2BPay now for some time. We find it easy and convenient to use to pay bills, such as Rent and ATO and particularly love the scheduled payment option, never late paying again. On top of that, we get AMEX points as well. Nice!!"

Is it worth paying rent with a credit card?

It depends on your circumstances. If cash flow matters, paying rent by card frees up cash for other critical areas for up to 55 days, depending on your card and statement cycle. If you travel, earning points on a large recurring expense builds a balance quickly.

Against that, weigh B2Bpay's platform fee and your card's own terms. The fee is shown before you confirm and is generally a business expense; confirm with your accountant. If you cannot clear the card each month, card interest will outweigh the benefit, and paying by bank account or PayTo through B2Bpay (lower fee, still earns B2B Points) may suit you better.

Run the numbers in the points calculator or see points maths.

Why pay rent through B2Bpay?

  • Use your card, not bank funds. Stop paying large expenses like rent and tax by EFT. Switch them to card, hold your bank funds longer and improve cash flow.
  • Earn full credit card points. Large recurring expenses are the fastest way to grow a points balance.
  • Earn B2B Points on top. 1 B2B Point per $1 on Earn Max or per $2 on Earn Plus, convertible 1:1 to Qantas or Velocity Points, 2:1 to Avios or 1:2.5 to Luxury Escapes Société Points.
  • Never late. Schedule rent so it lands on the due date every month.

The same works for strata levies, council rates, outgoings and property insurance. See pay rent, strata and property costs by card.

How to set up rent payments

Switching takes a few minutes.

  1. Sign up at points.b2bpay.com.au and add your card.
  2. Add your payee. If you currently pay by BPAY, add the biller using the BPAY code on your statement and your existing reference. If you pay by EFT, add your agent or landlord's bank details; B2Bpay verifies them before the first payment.
  3. Choose how to pay. If rent is the same each month, set up a recurring payment. Otherwise make one-off payments or future-date each one.
  4. B2Bpay pays your landlord by BPAY or EFT within 3 business days, with your reference.

Frequently asked questions

Does my landlord or agent need to do anything?

No. They receive a normal BPAY or bank transfer payment with your reference, the same as today. They do not need to accept cards, register with B2Bpay or change their process. B2Bpay verifies the bank account details you enter before the first payment, so money goes to the right place.

Can I pay residential rent for my business premises?

B2Bpay is for business payments. Rent for business premises, including home office arrangements that are a genuine business expense, is typically eligible. Payments to yourself or a related entity are excluded under card scheme rules. The team can confirm before you pay.

Can I pay strata levies and council rates too?

Yes. Strata managers and councils usually offer BPAY, so add them with the biller code and your reference. Insurance premiums and outgoings work the same way. See council rates, insurance and utilities by card. Scheduling them avoids late fees.

When should I schedule rent so it arrives on time?

Allow up to 3 business days for settlement. Schedule the payment at least three business days before the due date, or earlier around public holidays. Recurring payments handle this automatically once set. Your payment history shows the settlement date for every payment so you can check.

Which card is best for rent?

Any Visa, Mastercard or Amex works. Amex has a higher platform fee but often a higher points rate; Visa and Mastercard have the lowest fee. See choosing a card for business bills. Match the card to the partner you want points with.
