B2Bpay for IT and communications businesses

B2Bpay lets IT providers, managed service companies and telcos pay hardware distributors, software vendors, data centres, carriage providers, contractors and the ATO by credit card even where the vendor only accepts bank transfer, earning points on every invoice.

What IT and telco bills can be paid through B2Bpay?

Short answer: Distributor invoices, vendor licensing, hosting and data centre bills, carriage, contractors, rent and the ATO. You pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express; the vendor receives a bank transfer or BPAY payment.

Distributors and wholesale carriers are set up for bank transfer and 30 day terms, not cards. Typical bills include:

  • Hardware and software distributors: servers, networking gear, laptops, licences bought on behalf of clients.
  • Vendor and reseller agreements invoiced monthly or annually.
  • Data centre, colocation, hosting and cloud consumption where the provider invoices rather than bills a card.
  • Wholesale carriage, SIP trunks, NBN and fibre services for telcos and resellers.
  • Contract engineers, developers and cabling contractors.
  • Office rent, insurance and the ATO.

Because the payee gets a bank transfer, nothing changes for them. See paying suppliers who do not accept cards.

How does it help an MSP or reseller with cash flow?

Resellers and MSPs buy hardware and licences for a client, then invoice the client and wait. B2Bpay lets you pay the distributor on their terms by card while the money stays in your account for up to 55 days interest-free, depending on your card and statement cycle. The gap between paying the distributor and being paid by the client shrinks or disappears.

Project work is where this matters most: a $40,000 hardware refresh paid to a distributor in week one, with the client paying in week eight, no longer needs to come out of operating cash. The cash flow guide explains timing. Collecting client payments by card through the biller product speeds up the inbound side too.

What do the points look like on IT spend?

Your card issuer pays its normal reward points on every B2Bpay payment, and B2Bpay adds B2B Points: 1 per $1 on Earn Max, 1 per $2 on Earn Plus. 1 B2B Point equals 1 Qantas Point or 1 Velocity Point; 2 B2B Points equal 1 Avios.

An MSP paying $120,000 a month in distributor, licensing and carriage invoices through B2Bpay on Earn Max earns 120,000 B2B Points a month before card points. Run your own spend through the points calculator and read Qantas Business Rewards for business bills.

Who uses it, and what does it cost?

Usually the finance or operations manager, with the director approving. Multiple user logins are supported, and bills sync from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks with automatic reconciliation, so client cost recovery stays tidy. Payments can be bulk, scheduled or future-dated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay a distributor who only accepts bank transfer?

Yes. You pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express in the portal and the distributor receives a standard bank transfer with your invoice reference. They do not need to accept cards or change anything. B2Bpay verifies the distributor's bank account before the first payment.

Can I pay annual software licences by card to spread the cash impact?

Yes. An annual licence invoice paid through B2Bpay goes on your card, so the cash leaves your account at your statement due date rather than on the invoice date, up to 55 days later depending on your card. You also earn points on a bill that previously earned nothing.

Is the payment data secure?

B2Bpay is PCI DSS compliant. Card numbers are tokenised and never stored or displayed in full, payee bank accounts are verified, and data is held onshore by an Australian based team. The is B2Bpay safe guide covers the controls in detail.

Does it integrate with my accounting system?

Yes. B2Bpay connects to Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. Approved bills appear ready to pay and the payment is recorded back automatically. See the Xero integration FAQs or the guide to paying bills from Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks.

Can I keep paying the ATO by card after 30 June 2027?

Yes. The ATO has stated it will no longer accept credit card payments directly after that date. B2Bpay pays the ATO on your behalf by bank transfer using your payment reference number, so BAS, PAYG and income tax can still go on your card and earn points.
