How to maximise your points: pay for all business spending with a rewards card
Credit cards make business purchases easy and help cash flow, but their value does not end there. Choose a card strategically and the key to earning more is simple: put all your business expenses on it.

How do I maximise my business rewards points?
Short answer: Pick a card that suits your spending, then pay every business expense with it, large or small. Use B2Bpay for the bills that usually earn reduced or no points, such as the ATO, rent and utilities, and earn Qantas Points for your business on top.
Every transaction earns points, whatever the amount. The businesses that earn the most are the ones that route all their spending through one rewards card rather than splitting it between cards, bank transfers and cash.
How to choose the right credit card
Research the cards on the market and understand what each one offers before you commit. When comparing cards, consider:
| Factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Points-to-dollar ratio | How many points each dollar of spend earns. |
| Sign-up bonuses | Bonus points for new cardholders, and what spend unlocks them. |
| Interest-free days | The set number of days you are not charged interest, if you pay the monthly balance in full. |
| Complimentary features | Extras such as concierge services and airport lounge access. |
| Interest rates and fees | The purchase rate and annual or other card fees. |
| Points caps | Any limit the card provider sets on the points you can earn in a month or year. |
| Points expiry | The rules and timeframes for when points expire. |
| Other offers | Cash back, or discounts when you spend with certain retailers. |
Some cards offer more rewards in specific spending categories. If that does not suit you, many cards simply offer a set earn rate on all spend. Our guide to choosing a card for business bills goes further.
Pay for everything on your credit card
If your business pays for stock, contractors and supplier invoices from its bank account, you are missing the chance to build your points balance quickly.
The same goes for small, incidental purchases: the flat white on the way to work, petrol, or shouting a client lunch. Use your credit card rather than cash or a debit card. These are small amounts, but regular transactions add up to a lot of points over time.
Use B2Bpay to earn more points on all payments
Tax payments have traditionally been paid from a bank account, or directly by card with reduced points. B2Bpay lets you make those substantial ATO payments with ease and earn full credit card points#, plus Qantas Points* on top. See full points on ATO payments.
The same applies to many other bills, such as rent and utilities. Many card issuers reduce or remove the points you can earn on these when you pay them directly; through B2Bpay you earn full card rewards points and Qantas Points. See pay rent by credit card.
Earn Qantas Points on top
In addition to full card points, you earn Qantas Points for your business on eligible payments through B2Bpay. You need a Qantas Business Rewards membership for your ABN, and the join fee is waived through B2Bpay's link.
Under clause 9.2 of the B2Bpay Customer Terms and Conditions, Qantas Business Rewards members earn:
You can also earn up to 3 Qantas Points per $1.50 paid to B2Bpay Bonus Billers.
B2Bpay's Earn plans also add B2B Points on every payment (1 per $1 on Earn Max, 1 per $2 on Earn Plus), which convert 1:1 to Qantas Points. See Qantas Points with B2Bpay and earn Qantas Points, or call 1300 205 575 to confirm which option suits your business.
Use your points for flights to get the most value
One of the greatest advantages of Qantas Points is using them for flights, upgrades and other travel bookings with Qantas and its partners. Qantas makes it easy to move points from your Qantas Business Rewards account to an individual's Frequent Flyer account:
- Log in on the Qantas Business Rewards website and open the Transfer Points page.
- Choose who to transfer to by entering the recipient's name and Qantas Frequent Flyer number.
How one small business affords travel upgrades
For Victorian manufacturer Collinson's Vacuum Packaging, Qantas Business Rewards makes staff travel much more affordable. Collinson redeems points on flights, upgrades and accommodation for business trips, and has used them to fly his family to Japan for a Christmas holiday.
Using B2Bpay, the business earns Qantas Points when it pays bills, and when it receives payments if a customer pays a Xero invoice. It also uses a Qantas Points earning business credit card to earn even more on top.
"Paying bills through internet banking is a long, tedious process but B2Bpay is fast and easy to use. Plus, we get rewarded for it. Some of our suppliers are Bonus Billers, so we can earn up to 3 Qantas Points per $1.50 on payments."
Chris Collinson, co-owner, Collinson's Vacuum Packaging

Frequently asked questions
Should my business put every expense on one rewards card?
That is the simplest way to maximise points: every transaction earns, whatever the amount, so spending paid from the bank account or in cash is points left behind. Only do it if you can pay the card in full each month, so interest does not outweigh the rewards.
Why do some bills earn fewer points when paid directly?
Many card issuers reduce or remove points on payments such as the ATO, rent and utilities. Paid through B2Bpay, they earn full card points, because the charge is a purchase from B2Bpay. See paying direct vs through B2Bpay.
How do I move Qantas Points from my business to a Frequent Flyer account?
Log in to the Qantas Business Rewards website, open the Transfer Points page, and enter the recipient's name and Qantas Frequent Flyer number.
Do I need to be a Qantas Business Rewards member?
Yes, to earn Qantas Points for your business. The one-off $89.50 (incl. GST) join fee is waived for B2Bpay customers who join through B2Bpay's link. Save the same ABN in your B2Bpay profile so points can be matched.
Who do I contact about missing Qantas Points?
Claims about Qantas Points earned through B2Bpay go to B2Bpay, not Qantas. Email help@b2bpay.com.au or call 1300 205 575, and first check that your B2Bpay profile has the ABN registered with Qantas Business Rewards.
